The Cherry Tree - Tendring Public House for over 350 years
The Cherry Tree has been at the heart of the Tendring community for over 350 years.
We started life in the 17th century as a cider and beer house, and we’ve built up a tradition of quality and service ever since. And while our beer is as good as it’s ever been, and our pub and restaurant have lots of old-world charm, it’s our restaurant that’s winning us a reputation that stretches far beyond Essex and Suffolk.
So, come to The Cherry Tree and meet...
Your hosts: Andrew and Gillian Barham
When Andrew and Gillian Barham took over the management of The Cherry Tree Inn in March 2010, it was just like coming home – Andrew used to be the pub’s head chef between 1990 and 1996, helping to put the restaurant onto Essex’s culinary map.
Good food, good service and a warm welcome are at the heart of Andrew and Gillian’s work. As a professional chef, Andrew honed his skills at some of the best restaurants and pubs in London and Essex – including the Empress, Caprice, Ecu de France in London, the Maplin Hotel in Frinton-on-Sea, The Squirrels in Great Bentley and Colchester’s original Wig & Pen on the town’s North Hill.
Andrew insists on the same high standards at The Cherry Tree’s restaurant, and he’s often to be found helping our professional chef in the kitchen, as well as joining the customers for a chat in the bar.
