Local Attractions in the Tendring area

No visit to Tendring is complete without a drink and a meal at The Cherry Tree, but there’s also plenty to see and do in the local area.

The Church of St Edmund King & Martyr, Tendring

Although the tower dates from 1876, the body of our church dates from the 13th century and has been added to over the centuries. It has a fine hammerbeam roof that dates from the 14th century – earlier than the famous example in Westminster Hall.

The Tendring Hundred Show

The Tendring Hundred Show is one of the leading agricultural events in Essex. Taking place every July at Lawford House Park – only a 15 minute drive from The Cherry Tree – the show features heavy horses, vintage cars, falconry displays, tug-of-war challenges, terrier racing, an education area, a food hall with farmers’ market and much more. The Clacton Air Show

Now entering its 19th year, the Clacton Air Show attracts an estimated 140,000 visitors over two days in late August. So, if you want the chance to see the Harrier in flight, the Red Arrows putting on a display, or the famous Battle of Britain memorial flight, make sure you’re in North East Essex on 26th and 27th August (further information).

Open Gardens in Essex

Every year, mostly during the summer months, dozens of beautiful and noteworthy gardens in Essex are thrown open to the public. They include Hannams Hall in Tendring, with its six acres of formal and informal gardens, the famous Beth Chatto Gardens in nearby Elmstead Market, and the stunning Green Island at Ardleigh.
